Jase and I took a day trip up the Oregon Coast on the 29th. Scott generously let us borrow his car and we headed out in the morning. Garmin, our new GPS navigator, lead the way.

We stopped in Yachats at The Drift Inn for a delicious breakfast.

Next Stop: Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport

The puffin was posing for us!

Hard to tell, but this was the FLOOR of a tunnel that runs through the exhibit. There was a diver down there cleaning up. It was strange walking on the class with sharks and critters swimming by.

The tunnel above.

Parts of the aquarium were outside: it was raining.

Wolf eel! They are so ugly, they're cool.

And BABY wolf eels! They were about 2"!

We had a great time at the aquarium. While nothing compares to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, it did still have some things that the MBAQ didn't have (like a large sea lion and seal exhibit.) Plus, it used to be home to Keiko (Free Willy!).
Now onto the Yaquina lighthouses. First we visited the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse in town.
This sign was making me laugh for some reason. The little man looks so helpless! They have this same sign posted up and down the highway.

Then we headed North out of town to Yaquina Head Lighthouse. It was built to replace the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. But before checking it out, we went down to the tide pools to do a little exploring.
Here's what the "beach" is composed of.

Jason making his way down.

Critters in the tide pool.

Just a small part of the tide pools. They were really expansive.

The sea urchins are in carved-out holes in the rock.

A really pretty birdy! We saw it catch a fish as we were leaving.

The stairs looking up. (I actually got a little nervous near the top)

Base under the light.

The actual light. I thought it would be a lot brighter than it actually was.
