I know that she has understood "MILK" for a while now, but on Sunday when it was about time for another feeding, she was sitting on the floor, looked at me, stuck her hand out (not at a toy or anyone), and opened and closed her fist 3 times.
My heart jumped into my chest. "Did my baby just talk to me?!?!?!" I excitedly signed it back to her and fed her right away to reinforce it. I'm SO proud!!
My mom was here hanging out for the day and saw it, too. I'm really glad she was able to witness one of Mads' "firsts."
Initially, I was very skeptical that she actually signed it since most of what I read said they usually start signing back at 9 months. However, I found these excerpts from the book, "Baby Sign Language Basics."
I've seen a small percentage of babies between four and six months using a sign or two.
One great advantage to starting early is that your baby could possibly be signing back by six or seven months of age.
